At the 2008 Small Business Awards, Imaging The South won awards in both Innovation and 50-200 Employees catagories.
As a specialist radiology practice Imaging the South provides comprehensive diagnostic imaging including general and obstetric ultrasound and an interventional procedural service. Imaging the South offers a comprehensive and unique range of modalities, which include a 24-hour emergency plain film teleradiology reporting service which is available in most locations and Magnetic Resonance Imaging (the only MRI unit in rural Western Australia.). MRI is a state-of-the-art diagnostic tool providing early, accurate diagnosis of a range of diseases and is the leading tool for some serious conditions. One of Imaging the South’s most incredible achievements was in 2006 when recognised as the first Western Australian nationally accredited Radiology Practice under the NATA/RANZCR Accreditation Standards (National Association of Testing Authorities and Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Radiologists). This is the highest level of accreditation available to radiology practices in Australia, including public hospitals.
Operations manager Liz McNaughton believes Imaging the South’s success has much to do with its focus on referring doctors needs, which is backed up by superior service delivery, communications and reporting. “We must work with referring doctors as our patients are their patients after all, the referring doctors are the first step of the patient journey with Imaging the South,’’ Mrs McNaughton said. “Not only do we offer them a diagnostic imaging service, we offer them education, mentoring, advice and a role as an integral part of the local medical communities in the locations we operate,’’ she said. Mrs McNaughton said Imaging the South had an exceptionally capable team who were all passionate about delivering services to rural and remote areas. “All of our people live and work in our regional communities,’’ she said. Mrs McNaughton said embracing technology had been essential in the growth of the business. “Even in our very early days, we had a rudimentary teleradiology system in place pushing ultrasound images over copper wires to Dr Walker for reporting,’’ she said. “Today, through ITS-Link and a sophisticated communications network, we utilise a state-of-the-art technology platform which delivers quality reports to referring doctors desktops, providing patients with exceptional care.“A commitment to leading edge diagnostic imaging equipment has similarly played an important role in the recruitment of high calibre specialists and medical imaging technologists.’’
